Empty space

I’m selling a number of things in my home. Tables, chairs, lamps and various housewares. I have no plans to replace them at this moment. I’m creating empty space.

Is this an interior designer, decor extraordinaire telling you to remove things? Oh yes. It is.

First, less is more and all that. Cluttered spaces overstimulate us.

Second, things that aren’t right in our space, that we ultimately don’t want in our homes, are taking up space. Space where the things we really want can live.

Its true with boyfriends and its true with stuff. We have to make space for the love and the things we really want. We want those things to know we have space for them in our lives.

Recently I was in a client’s home. She is making small changes as they prepare for a larger remodel. We looked above one of her fireplaces and she pointed to a piece of art that had been there for quite some time.

“That’s going to go, I just don’t know what to put there.”

I suggested, “Well if that one isn’t it, take it down. Create a vacuum and leave room for the magic to come to you.”

The beginning of Spring is the perfect time to create space. Open up the windows and take each object in your hand. Ask if it is time for it to move on. Is this the thing you really want?

Its an energy of abundance. (Not consumption, that is a blog for another day.) Its abundance. That the beautiful thing that isn’t for you anymore is for someone else. The beautiful thing that is meant for you is waiting to come in.

Create empty space.
Fill it first with love and then see what happens…
