Meet Sonja Skvarla

I’m a passionate interior designer dedicated to creating peaceful sanctuaries in the home and office. Based in Yuba City, California, I thrive on collaborating with homeowners and business owners across Yuba, Butte, Glenn, and surrounding counties to craft personalized environments.

With a calling to design spaces that transcend the ordinary, I channel my creative energy into transforming your space into a cherished, safe space. I believe you deserve an environment that embodies your essence and provides an oasis of calm away from the chaotic outside world.

A beautiful space—one that reflects your personality—has the power to transform your life, your work, and your mood.

Sonja’s Design Journey

Early Influence

In my earliest memories, I found resonance in the aesthetic beauty of everyday moments—from my grandmother’s closet to glassed-in porch sleepovers etched vibrant, emotional memories. As a highly sensitive person, I sensed the deep undercurrents of energy within these spaces, fueling my fascination with how environments shape experiences. These memories inspire my design work where I approach every project with the expectation clients will develop lasting memories and an emotional attachment to a place.

Environment Engagement

Across pizza shops, bakeries, offices, and prisons where I worked, I honed an intrinsic focus on enhancing environments with the knowledge that surroundings can make a profound effect on its inhabitants. I curated immersive guest experiences in eateries, transformed prison settings into spaces that embodied new beginnings, and advocated for impactful improvements in corporate environments. Whether setting up a candlelit ambiance or shifting the prison atmosphere for my students through rearranging the room, I aimed to alter environments to positively impact people’s experiences within them.

Interior Design Philosophy

My journey underscores the transformative power of spaces on human behavior. Advocating for breakroom enhancements in retail settings and pioneering personal identity reflections in spaces and attire in unlikely places, I focus most on how I can help others thrive when our environment is more attuned to us. I’ve long realized that, as humans, we are rockstars at overcoming adversity. Adjusting ourselves to survive in nearly any condition. Built to support us in who we want to be, both personally and in the collective. Interior design has never been about the color of the year or the latest trend in furniture, to me. It’s been about creating a backdrop for you to shine!
