When The King’s Accountant, a full-service accounting firm in Marysville, CA, set out to expand, they weren’t just looking for more office space—they wanted a seamless blend of work and home, modern function, and historic charm. Having previously worked with Sonja Skvarla Design Studio on their executive office redesign, they knew they wanted to extend the same “Smart Casual” aesthetic—moody blues, warm brass, and intentional lighting—into this new commercial renovation project
The challenge? They didn’t yet own the building. So, before construction could begin, we focused on creating a compelling commercial interior design concept, detailed floor plans, and exterior updates that would not only enhance the building’s functionality but also appeal to financiers.
Our approach blended historic building restoration with modern office design. The front of the building was transformed into an efficient and welcoming workspace, while the back two floors were designed as a stylish, comfortable residence. Every detail was carefully considered to preserve architectural integrity while optimizing for a professional yet inviting atmosphere.
Our prior collaboration set the stage for this transformation. As the owner of The King’s Accountant shared after our 2022 project:

Today, The King’s Accountant is moving forward with renovations based on our design. Due to the extended timeline and the nature of historic building restoration, the owners have taken on much of the work themselves. Though the process is slower than initially planned, they remain dedicated to creating a one-of-a-kind modern office and residential space that reflects their brand, values, and future growth.
