Not all clients have a large space, but that doesn’t mean they want to scrimp on luxury. A small space can still be beautiful and soft. Our client lives in an older part of Yuba City, CA and enjoys a cozy home. She asked us to create a space that was minimal, light and airy to lounge and dream in. We were happy to take the grey room, stuffed with furniture and bring soft color and lightness to her space.
Even in a small space, we optimized for storage adding custom, built-in drawers to the closet to reduce the need for a bulky dresser. Here the ‘unmentionables’ can be tucked away while the rest of her beautiful clothes can be seen as the room becomes a dressing room. She loves displaying her beautiful things and musing about what she will wear. The big bed and headboard were replaced with a simple wood frame bed to further minimize the furniture footprint and gain more space without moving any walls. This room is used for all kinds of relaxing and needed to be functional without any opportunities for clutter.
The color mirrored on both sides of the room is a custom color matched to a beloved blanket passed down from the client’s maternal grandmother. This was our way to bring that piece of heritage to the space year-round without the weight and heat of wool in California.
A few styling details and a unique ambient light source put the finishing touches on this simple, yet elegant lounge space.
